Hypoallergenic Eyeliner

Hypoallergenic Eyeliner

Whether you line all the way around your eye, go for a classic winged look, or simply want to thicken the look of your lashes, eyeliner can make your eyes look larger, rounder, and even enhance their natural color. But it utilizing all of eyeliner’s cosmetic benefits can be difficult when you have sensitive eyes. Even the most practiced eyeliner user has experienced the pain of getting eyeliner in their eye. Even if you don’t have sensitive eyes, eyeliner can be a serious irritant. Whether it simply makes your eyes bloodshot and watery, or whether it creates stys along your waterline, these are signs that traditional eyeliner is not for you. Hypoallergenic eyeliner is formulated to work with the chemistry of your skin and eye, so that it will not irritate or harm the most sensitive part of your face.

Sensitive Eyes

All people have at least some eye sensitivity. Because of their role in our nervous system, our eyes are vitally important, and therefore have been equipped with some serious defense mechanisms. Everyone has felt their eyes water or burn after coming in contact with an allergen or irritating substance. However, some people experience even greater sensitivity, outside of the typical allergies. For women with chronically dry eyes, or for those with extra sensitivities, like to wind, cold or light, traditional eye makeup is rarely a feasible choice.

Hypoallergenic eyeliner is a great alternative for women who cannot use traditional makeup lines. Made only with natural pigments and ingredients, hypoallergenic eyeliner is designed to alleviate the pain, irritation, redness, and watering sensation that women with sensitive eyes have previously had to endure if they wanted to wear eyeliner.

Liquid or Pencil?

Hypoallergenic eyeliner comes in both liquid and pencil varieties. For women with especially sensitive eyes, who cannot endure even the smallest bit of irritation, pencil is the best choice. It affords the most control over where the color goes. Unlike liquid eyeliner, it is not going to run into the eye from the water line or from the corners.

Liquid eyeliner is more comfortable to apply, as it glides alone the eye with less pressure than is necessary when using a pencil. Pencil eyeliner must be drawn on, while liquid is designed to be applied with a brush. Liquid also provides more options when it comes to colors and styles.

How to Test Eyeliner

Because eyeliner has the potential for seriously irritating the eye, the last thing you want to do is to test it by applying it directly to your eyelid. Before you ever wear the eyeliner as it was designed to be worn, test it on a patch of skin on your inner elbow. This part of your arm has thin skin and is close to a number of blood vessels. When you test cosmetics on this patch of skin, you will see if the makeup is going to harm your skin in any way. Hypoallergenic eyeliner is far less likely to cause swelling, dryness, or redness than any other kind of eyeliner.

Yes, please provide us a list of some brands or products. I have noticed over recent yrs I have become more and more sensitive to eyeliners. It’s gotten to the point all but one that I’ve tried causes some kind of irritation whether it be mild swelling, redness, or just itching around the lining / area applied. And the one eye pencil I found I can use only one store carries it, but they don’t always have it.
